Day 10: Cordoba

We said farewell to our house on the hill in Grenada and caught the train and headed to Cordoba.  We are now staying in a house that was built in the early 16th century. We are very close to the Mezquita, a former mosque converted to a cathedral.  We will visit it tomorrow.
After wandering around finding a place for lunch, we went to find some more processions.  We watched one come down a very narrow street.
This one had very striking outfits.
The next one we sat very close to.  The palm trees are still a bit hard to get used to.
With the tall hats on the penitents it is very difficult to tell how big the people are.  This is supposed to be why they wear the tall hats.  The floats are still neat to see.  They stop every so often to put them down to rest.  We think they have about 42 people underneath carrying them, who kneel to rest.
In the photo above they are carrying the Mary out of the cathedral in the Mezquita.  Some of the Jesus statues are similar but all the Marys are different.
Lastly, Alan got some sunglasses to fit in better here.

  1. The colours on the penitents' hoods are stunning. Alan's glasses are crooked. Is that the current trend in Spain?
You do know, of course, that your aunt Ruth lived in Cordoba for a while. Right?
