Day 6: Seville

Captain's log star date 041214.  We boarded the futuristic decontamination chamber and headed down to the planet's surface.
Actually, this is the elevator to the top of the Parasol, a controversial viewing platform in central Seville. It is controversial because of its cost and the contrast to the historic buildings around it.
The whole city is getting ready for Holy Week or Semana Santa.  The processions start tomorrow, we will miss the ones here, but hope to see some in Granada

This is a miniature candy version of a float and the outfits worn by the worshippers.  Another tradition strong in Seville is bullfighting.  The bull ring here is the most prestigious in Spain.
The bull fight takes place in three phases. First, men on horses wound the bull with lances.  Then the picadors on foot use brightly coloured darts to stab the bull and make it angry.

The final phase of the fight commences with the matador taunting the bull with a red cape.  Bulls don't actually see the colour red, but react to the movement of the cape.  When bullfights started they thought the colour red made the bulls angry.  Finally, the matador kills the bull with a precise strike with a sword.  How easy or difficult a place to strike the bull determines whether they get the honour or a trophy (usually the ear of the bull).  This is a Spanish cultural tradition which is interesting, but not something that we would like to watch.
We joined the evening stroll and explored the park by Plaza Espana, and fed some ducks and other birds.
