Day nine: Granada

This morning we ventured to the Granada Cathedral and the smaller church attached to it.  In the smaller church there were the remains of Ferdinand and Isobella, the king and queen who united Spain under Catholic rule.  Their coffins are really small, the spanish are not a tall people.  Then we went to the cathedral.  It was of course, massive and grand.  But with a twist.
The interior is white because it was painted with lime during an outbreak of disease.  The people liked it and decided to keep it that way.  The inside is a Renaissance style.
We walked through the old silk market with its narrow passageways. It now contains a variety of shops.
We attended two more processions, one of which we saw leaving its church.  There were lots of news people and cameras there, so we are probably on Grenada TV. The floats are so tall, the carriers actually had to carry one out on their knees!
The other procession was interesting and different too, because it was silent.  Only the rapping of an officiants staff on the ground to start and stop the procession.
The statues that they carry are sometimes very old.  This Mary was made in the sixteenth century, so we all made sure to touch it as it went by.
